Automatic Detection and Removal of Impulsive Noise in Audio Signals

چکیده

This article presents a method for restoring audio signals corrupted by impulsive noise such as clicks, bursts or scratches. The algorithm takes as input a degraded audio signal and automatically detects the locations of the degraded samples and replaces them with more appropriate values. Both steps (detection and interpolation) are based on the assumption that the signal can locally be modeled as a realization of an autoregressive process. Surprisingly, the results obtained on several types of signals (classical, jazz, vocal, etc.) show that a fully automatic method, with a carefully fixed set of parameters, can achieve good performance on a wide range of degraded audio signals. Source Code The reviewed source code in C language for this algorithm and an online demo are available from the web page of this article1. Compilation and usage instruction are included in the README.txt file of the archive.

A New Algorithm for Voice Activity Detection Based on Wavelet Packets (RESEARCH NOTE)

Speech constitutes much of the communicated information; most other perceived audio signals do not carry nearly as much information. Indeed, much of the non-speech signals maybe classified as ‘noise’ in human communication. The process of separating conversational speech and noise is termed voice activity detection (VAD). This paper describes a new approach to VAD which is based on the Wavelet ...

12 Impulsive Noise

mpulsive noise consists of relatively short duration " on/off " noise pulses, caused by a variety of sources, such as switching noise, adverse channel environments in a communication system, dropouts or surface degradation of audio recordings, clicks from computer keyboards, etc. An impulsive noise filter can be used for enhancing the quality and intelligibility of noisy signals, and for achiev...

Adaptive-Filtering-Based Algorithm for Impulsive Noise Cancellation from ECG Signal

Suppression of noise and artifacts is a necessary step in biomedical data processing. Adaptive filtering is known as useful method to overcome this problem. Among various contaminants, there are some situations such as electrical activities of muscles contribute to impulsive noise. This paper deals with modeling real-life muscle noise with α-stable probability distribution and adaptive filterin...

ROBUST TREATMENT OF IMPULSIVE NOISEIN SPEECH AND AUDIO SIGNALSBy

Markov chain Monte Carlo methods are presented for treatment of localized, impulsive noise (outliers) in digitized waveforms, within a Bayesian hierarchical framework. Outliers in audio signals occur as`clicks' and`crackles' in degraded sound recordings and impulsive noise in communications channels. Sampling-based methods for detection and correction of such artefacts are presented, in which i...

Geological noise removal in geophysical magnetic survey to detect unexploded ordnance based on image filtering

This paper describes the application of three straightforward image-based filtering methods to remove the geological noise effect which masks unexploded ordnances (UXOs) magnetic signals in geophysical surveys. Three image filters comprising of mean, median and Wiener are used to enhance the location of probable UXOs when they are embedded in a dominant background geological noise. The study ar...
